6B Newsletter - Spring 2017

Year 6 is a massive year for all of us!  We have so much to prepare for and look forward to over the coming months and are ready to settle  in and work hard to reap the rewards to come.

In Literacy as a class we are reading Running Wild by Michael Morpurgo.  After only a few chapters we are hooked and cannot wait to read the rest.  Our writing will be based around the book as well as our Topic work.  We have started learning about Tsunamis and the impact they have on people around the world.  This will be followed by other global issues such as deforestations and human trafficking.

In Maths we are focusing on Place Value and Number to start off the year.  We must make sure our basic skills (number bonds and times tables) are spot on in order to move onto more advanced work.

Our goal this year is to become more independent in preparation for moving onto Secondary school.  To do this we will be using our skills from the Building Learning Power toolkit in our learning, but also in sorting issues out on the playground.
