Welcome to Dragonflies (Year 1)!

Dragonflies Newsletter - Spring 2017

Welcome to Dragonflies! We are enthusiastic and passionate learners who love to ask questions to discover new things! We enjoy learning in our classroom and in the outside environment. We are practising how to become more independent learners now we are in Year 1 and are always looking for new things to help us. We take of our class and the objects in it, we work together and are friendly and helpful. When we show our amazing learning power we can get Dojo points. Our topic is incorporated into all of our learning including Numeracy and Literacy. We enjoy going on trips and learning from visitors welcomed to our classroom.

Things to remember:

We have swimming on Wednesday and P.E on Thursday. Please remember to bring in your P.E kit at the beginning of the week.

Please bring your book bag into school every day so we can put letters, books and children’s work inside. We change reading books on Monday and Thursday. Children work in ‘book bands’ and are given books appropriate to their ability. It is really important that the children are reading these books to you, sounding out words and talking about the story. If you feel the book is not suited to your child, please come and discuss this with us. Please write in the yellow reading record so we know you have read together. This is a great opportunity for you to share reading successes or if you need any support.

Autumn Term

Our first topic is ‘Castles, Kingdoms and Fairy tales’. We will be learning about this topic through stories and non-fiction books. We will be learning all about kings, queens, dragons and the places they live!

Look out for homework which is linked to our learning at school. If you have any books or things you would like to share linked to our topic, please do bring them in.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to come and talk to us.

We look forward to having an exciting term in Dragonflies.
