Safeguarding
At Smallwood we are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of the children in our care.
We expect all staff, volunteers, visitors, Governors, parents, carers and children to share this commitment.

All visitors must sign in at the main school office.

Ensuring children's safety is our key priority at Smallwood and we take your concerns seriously. Should you ever have any concerns about your own or another child's welfare, please contact a member of our safeguarding team.

Our Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs) are Fiona Loudon (Headteacher) and Mr Noonan (Deputy Headteacher), who have overall safeguarding responsibility for the school. In addition, our Deputy DSLs are Mr Patel (Lower KS1 Leader), Mrs Byrne (EYFS Leader), Mrs Downham (Head of Language Unit) and Ms Epps (SENCo), all of whom are all trained DSLs and able to support with any safeguarding concerns you may have. Our team are available for both yourself and the children and we hope that you would come to us with any concerns.

Furthermore, our safeguarding governors for the school are Mr James Daley (Acting Chair of Governors) and Ms Judy Hague (Chair of the Children’s, Families and Communities Committee). They ensure our safeguarding systems place the child at the heart of every decision we make and provide an overarching vision for safeguarding at Smallwood.

Please ensure that your children know who our safeguarding team are and that we are there to help them with any anxieties, concerns or worries.

  • All staff must read the safeguarding procedures leaflet provided by the office staff. This leaflet provides information about different types of safeguarding concerns and what you should do if you have any of these concerns.
  • All visitors will be issued with an appropriate pass which must be displayed clearly at all times whilst on site.
  • Visitors wishing to speak to a particular member of staff should telephone the school office to make an appointment.
  • All visitors must sign out at the main school office and return their visitor pass, before leaving the site
