School meals are provided by a catering company called Edwards and Ward. They prepare balanced nutritious meals each day in the school kitchens on a three week menu cycle. A vegetarian option is always offered. All children eat together and water is always available.
If your child is eligible for free school meals, it is very important for the school that you claim for them, even if you choose to give your child a packed lunch instead. For every child that is registered for a free school meal, the school receives a payment of over £950 called the “Pupil Premium” and this money is used by the school to improve the attainment of the children. Please ask at the school office if you would like further information on whether your child is eligible and help with making the claim.
At Smallwood we believe it is very important for children to eat a sensible and balanced diet so that they have plenty of energy to enjoy the school day. If you are providing your child with a packed lunch please try and make them healthy and avoid processed food such as chocolate, biscuits, crisps and sweets.
Please do not include any items containing nuts (some of our children have an allergic reaction to nuts and it can be very serious if they come into contact with them).
Children have access to water fountains throughout the day and all children are given a Smallwood water bottle when they start school. Please make sure that your child's name is written on their water bottle.
