A School Travel Plan promotes active, healthy, safe and sustainable travel to school. The main objectives of a School Travel Plan are to:
- Improve health through encouraging active travel and reducing harmful emissions.
- Improve the environment through reducing congestion, reducing pollution and improving facilities for walkers and cyclists.
- Improve safety through increasing road safety education.
- Improve access and opportunity by developing pupils' skills for safe and independent travel.
At Smallwood school we have received bronze accreditation for our efforts in encouraging and promoting active and sustainable travel. This year the children have been involved in a range of activities including scooter training for KS1 and EYFS, bike safety training (Year 5 and 6), pedestrian awareness (Year 2 and 3) and theatre in education for Year 4 and 5.
